INJURY REPORT: February 23, 2017
-Anaheim/C Antoine Vermette…originally received 10-game suspension on 2/16 for striking an official; suspension was reduced to five games.
-Anaheim/D Sami Vatanen…suffered lower-body injury on 2/3; activated from IR and returned to action last Friday.
-Buffalo/D Cody Franson…suffered bone bruise on foot 2/9; was to miss 2-3 weeks, but returned to action last Saturday.
-Detroit/RW Gustav Nyqvist…received six-game suspension for sticking Jared Spurgeon in the face on 2/12.
-Detroit/G Jimmy Howard…sprained MCL on 12/20; moved to long-term injury reserve list on 1/19; left AHL game on 2/8 against Manitoba after feeling a “tweak” in his injured leg and then suffered another setback on 2/13; still not feeling great, so resumption of AHL stint may be delayed.
-Edmonton/D Darnell Nurse…hip injury suffered on 12/1; after surgery on 12/12 he was expected to miss most of the season, but he could return tomorrow.
-LA/G Jonathan Quick…groin injury; has been out since season opening contest in San Jose on 10/12; returned to practice this week, but still expected out until early-March.
-Minnesota/D Jonas Brodin…broke finger on 1/17; was expected to miss a month, but returned to action last Friday.
-Minnesota/D Mathew Dumba…lower body injury and illness since 2/12; was expected to miss the rest of the month, but was activated on Tuesday.
-NY Islanders/D Travis Hamonic…knee injury; out since 1/11; considered week-to-week; skated on his own before practice last Thursday and might return to the Islanders next week.
-NY Islanders/C Casey Cizikas…upper-body injury on 2/21; will miss four weeks.
-Ottawa/LW Mike Hoffman…injured groin on 2/19; there is a chance he could return to action with the Senators by Sunday.
-Ottawa/RW Mark Stone…suffered neck injury on hit by Jacob Trouba on 2/19; there is a chance he could return to action by Sunday.
-Ottawa/RW Bobby Ryan…suffered broken finger after taking a shot off his hand on 2/18 and will miss 4-6 weeks.
-Philadelphia/C Travis Konecny…lower body injury on 2/7; will miss 4-6 weeks.
-Pittsburgh/LW Carl Hagelin…suffered concussion on 2/4; placed on IR 2/12; returned to action last Friday.
-Pittsburgh/D Olli Maatta…injured hand on 2/17; underwent surgery the same day and is expected to miss at least six weeks.
-Pittsburgh/RW Bryan Rust…arm injury on 2/9; placed on IR 2/14.
-Pittsburgh/D Justin Schultz…concussion on 2/16; has missed three straight games with no specific time-frame for return.
-Pittsburgh/LW Conor Sheary…upper body injured on 1/31; placed on IR 2/3; slated to be out 4-6 weeks, but now skating with team and could return earlier than expected.
-St. Louis/C Paul Stastny…lower-body injury on 2/9; placed on IR 2/14, returned to action on Monday.
-Tampa Bay/C Steven Stamkos…lateral meniscus tear surgery on 11/16; on track to return within the 4-6 month original estimate, possibly as early as mid-March, but could miss the rest of the season if Tampa falls out of the race.
–Tampa Bay/RW Ryan Callahan…reoccurring right hip injury; placed on IR 1/17; had follow-up procedure performed on 2/22 is out indefinitely.
-Toronto/C Mitch Marner…suffered upper body injury on 2/15; placed on IR 2/21 and there is no specific timeframe for his return, though injury isn’t believed to be serious.
-Vancouver/LW Sven Baertschi…left game on 2/7 with a concussion; placed on IR 2/12; originally considered day-to-day, but still sidelined.
–Washington/LW Andre Burakovsky…hand injury on 2/9; out until mid-March at the earliest.
-Winnipeg/G Ondrej Pavelec…suffered concussion on 2/7; placed on IR 2/14; traveling with team, but has not yet suited up to play.
