Jeff Shain has been writing about college football for 22 years, the past eight for the Miami Herald sports pages. He has been a beat writer in four major conferences and spent more than a dozen years analyzing the national scene.

Shain previously spent 10 years as college football editor at United Press International, where he coordinated the coaches' poll and
All-America selections. In recent years he's served as an All-America selector for the Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America.
